Who is Martin Muruthi?
My passion for cybersecurity began in 2015, during my first year of high school, inspired by the TV series Blindspot , which my brother introduced me to. Throughout high school, I was always fascinated and curious about how my favorite character from Blindspot cracked passwords, accessed people's devices, and tracked bad guys. After completing high school, I had the privilege of pursuing cybersecurity and forensics at Kabarak University in Kenya. During my time at Kabarak, I deeply engaged in cybersecurity, spending my time after classes learning about different hacking tools and how they can be used to protect users from cyber threats. Initially, my interest was more about curiosity and the thrill of hacking into different devices—from my friends' devices to those of people I barely knew—not with bad intentions, but out of curiosity.
In early 2021, I decided to set up my own firm focused on data protection. Cryptography felt like it was in my blood. Constructing and breaking algorithms became my thing. I initially named my company Leontech, inspired by my GitHub username,leontech254. However, due to my inexperience in handling firms, Leontech didn't last long. It later evolved into Leonteqsecurity.com, which lasted until the birth of Cysecinnovation, the stable version of my previous ventures.
Each name change was inspired by different ideas but with one big goal: protecting users' data. Leontech's initial idea was to build software to solve community problems, not specifically focused on security. Leonteqsecurity, which lasted from 2021 to 2024, focused more on protecting users through cyber awareness, compliance documents, mobile penetration testing, web penetration testing, server protection, etc. Cysecinnovation brought all these ideas together, implementing them innovatively and generating ideas to make software that protects users from cyber threats.
Currently, I am a cybersecurity analyst and a full-stack developer for desktop, websites, and Android applications, with extensive knowledge in different programming languages. My inspiration to learn more than one programming language, including their frameworks, comes from the belief that to be an ethical hacker, you must understand how these platforms work, including their languages. I once read in a cybersecurity book that "all hackers are programmers, but not all programmers are hackers."
I believe that Cysecinnovation will make a significant impact not only in Africa but worldwide. I stay updated with technology and am always eager to learn new technologies and new ways of securing devices.
